Fillings
Dental fillings can help restore your teeth that may have been damaged by decay or trauma. The procedure involves removing the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and filling the resulting cavity with a material such as a composite resin (white filling), or amalgam.
Fillings are appropriate in a variety of situations, including:
- Cavities: When bacteria in the mouth produce acids that attach tooth enamel, which can create small holes called cavities. Fillings are used to restore the tooth and prevent further decay.
- Cracks and Chips: Teeth can become cracked or chipped due to trauma or grinding. Fillings can be used to repair these defects and prevent further damage.
- Worn Teeth: Teeth that have been worn down due to clenching and/or grinding can be restored with a fillings, helping to improve their appearance and function.
- Cosmetic Reasons: In some cases, fillings may be used for cosmetic reasons to improve the appearance of the teeth. For example, composite resin fillings can be used to fill in gaps or reshape the teeth.
